10 Video Games That Will Eventually Be Regarded As Masterpieces

9. Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty

Probably the closest on this list to already being widely considered as a masterpiece - thanks to its age - is Starcraft II: Wings Of Liberty. In its early reviews the game was referred to as "required reading" for anyone with even a fleeting interest in the RTS genre; an impressive statement given the sheer volume of titles available within that niche. Starcraft II is a game that manages to mix the classic, often stagnant RTS formula with all of the extra bells and whistles to make sure the experience never fails to entertain. Its battles and skirmishes look extremely pleasing, while the whole thing plays out across three campaigns, each of which is teeming with wonderfully engaging characters and moments of real poignance. It's huge scale is metered wonderfully against some moments of tranquility and calm that have left many a player in awe of how the excitement and energy can subside so suddenly, leaving them wondering just what the cost of each conflict truly is.
