10 Video Games Where Evil Won
7. Halo Reach
Halo’s is one of gaming’s most widely explored universes,
featuring a rich lore that kept players hooked since its inception in 2002. The
Fall Of Reach is undoubtedly one of its most pivotal moments, marking a turning
point in the Human-Covenant war.
It may explain why Bungie chose this setting for their final
Halo game, 2010’s Halo Reach, its a prequel set weeks before Halo: Combat
Evolved. Playing as SPARTAN-B312, better known as Noble Six and Noble Team’s
latest recruit, you discover that Covenant forces have located planet Reach,
birthplace of the Spartan-II program, and have begun a full-scale invasion.
Coming into contact with the Spartan program’s creator, Dr
Halsey, Noble Team become entrusted with taking Cortana to the UNSC’s Pillar of
Autumn ship, containing information about an alien artifact that can end the
war.
Its tagline “From the beginning, you know the end” is apt, as anyone familiar with Halo knows just why it’s called The Fall of Reach. Staying behind to ensure Autumn’s escape, almost every member is slowly taken down one-by-one, ending with Six’s last stand against Covenant forces.
The Covenant may have eventually been defeated but the
legacy of Noble Team was not forgotten, seeing Reach become a rallying cry
amongst human forces.
