Marvel's Avengers was so badly handled, you'd swear it was orchestrated by Loki. Boasting over a thousand glitches (that's not an exaggeration, we counted), this comic book catastrophe was dead on arrival.

Within two months, it was estimated Square Enix had lost $63 million due to this stinker. Desperate to get back on track, the company created a patch for Marvel's Avengers which remedied countless player-reported issues. To keep players happy, a tons of DLC campaigns and playable superheroes were added.

But even if every bug was scrubbed out, it wouldn't matter, since Avengers isn't fun. The flawed matchmaking, recycled environments, repetitive gameplay, and the universally hated loot crates are enough to drive anyone crazy, even if you live and breathe Stan Lee's creations.

Also, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix shot themselves in the foot, when they introduced XP boost, encouraging players to spend REAL money to level up. After this mechanic was added, it took longer for non-paying players to level up than when Avengers launched, which made it feel like it was punishing gamers for not paying extra! Despite the fact XP boost was removed soon after, it was too little too late, since people just weren't playing anymore.

Recognising the property was tainted beyond repair, Square Enix announced decided that Marvel's Avengers would come to an end in September. Although it was one of the most hyped projects of 2020, it only took three years for this dud to be snapped out of existence.
