6. Halo 5: Guardians
Why? Guardians is the best Halo since 3, with an unprecedented plot-twist that means huge ramifications for the franchise going forward. To get the most out of Halo 5, you need to completely disregard the marketing PR that's surrounding it. Guardians is not about this mostly made-up 'Locke vs. Chief' rivalry that Microsoft have been harping on about for months. There's no personal confliction between the two - instead the story hinges on a far more important revelation that'll slam you square in the gut right near the end. If you're anything of a Halo fan, you now need to know what that is - and it's a damn good job that gameplay-wise, Guardians is exemplary. The addition of ground-pounds, COD-style 'Iron Sights' aiming, sliding and shoulder barging initially
divided the fanbase, but in practice they're huge amounts of fun. Multiplayer is robust and chock full of modes, with 343 Industries noting there are multiple free updates on the way to add more too. Halo 4 kinda came and went as the new team's inaugural entry in the fiction, but Halo 5 sees a confident developer delivering an instalment for the ages - making it by far the most progressive and forward-thinking Halo since the
open-world experiment that was ODST.
