10 Ways FIFA Has Gotten WORSE With Every Year
2. Money And Pay To Win
Microtransactions are probably the biggest controversy in gaming in 2020. Across the industry, we have seen them implemented over time to the stage where the majority of new titles feature them in some form.
FIFA has had microtransactions in Ultimate Team for years and it allows players to open packs to try and get rare cards that will make that difference in your squad.
Due to the profits that EA Sports are making from Ultimate Team, it is the only mode that is being focused on. This is to the detriment of all the other areas of the game.
The biggest problem with the current system in FIFA though is the pay to win element. Professional players, if they are lucky, will have sponsors that can put money in on their behalf to get the best players.
For regular and casual players you are faced with a choice: put in a ridiculous amount of your own money or try to grind endlessly week in week out. This is just to be able to compete as it is impossible to do so if you have a greatly inferior squad.
It can be classed as gambling, which has led to microtransactions within FIFA being banned in countries such as Belgium. Players can put thousands of pounds into Ultimate Team with no guarantee of getting high rated cards. Gambling is a huge problem for many people and with a large number of younger players, it is not the direction FIFA should be heading in.
