The gameplay itself has been heavily criticised for years, with many gamebreaking features that mean for many it is not enjoyable, and perhaps even completely unplayable.
Problems with the direction that the series is heading have been highlighted in this list, but if the gameplay itself was good and was getting better each year most players would be happy enough. The problem is that it is getting worse year on year.
Even as recently as FIFA 15 the gameplay was fast, fun and enjoyable. However, since then each new version has had very few changes and is run on the same base game.
Across social media every day there are clips of bugs within the game and moments that should not happen in a football title in 2020. Goalkeepers letting the ball go past them, players just standing still at a vital moment or open goals being missed even with high rated players.
For the majority of players fun and enjoyable gameplay is the most important feature of FIFA. This has not been delivered by EA Sports.
