8. A Failsafe If Your Ship Goes Down/You Get Taken Out

The absolute worst part of PVP in any game is losing in a way that feels like you had no alternative, and again, although you can sometimes make a swift getaway here, more often than not you'll go down and lose a good hour's worth of questing in the process.

Even if you make a point of grabbing a treasure chest or skull while your ship capsizes, you won't still be holding it when you respawn. Treasure can be stolen by other ships (which is fine, given the whole "pirate life" thing), but wiping all your progress back to zero is something even Dark Souls didn't do.

To remedy the frustration pretty much every player has felt, we need some sort of bounty or quest to retrieve our lost gear. There are sunken ships all over the map anyway, so why not stash our former gear in one of them?

Make it so no other player can claim even if they're in the vicinity, and then only the player can get THEIR stuff back.
