10 Ways Rare Can Save Sea Of Thieves

6. Finish The Kraken Design & Make Its Attack Something Special

The Kraken attack should've been the coolest thing you we saw all year. It should be a viral sensation, made into gifs that get shared across pop culture for its few weeks in the sun.

Instead, the version we've got doesn't even have a body.

Sadly, this just feels unfinished. You can tell Rare had the idea of doing a dynamic encounter with real peril and threat, where from the second your ship jolts to a stop and a massive black mass appears below the water, you're in for one hell of a fight.

Actually battling the Kraken means unloading cannons and gunfire into some mostly static tentacles, with the occasional moment where you get sucked into its reach allowing for a bit of swordplay to break free. It's certainly epic-feeling...ish, but again, there's nothing below the water. No way to have a multi-faceted boss fight where all your crew members do what they can to survive.

The Kraken needs animations to whisk players off their ships and into the air. It needs to feel like you're really fighting for your life by running to and fro, and most of all, it needs to emerge from the water more fully formed every now and then.

I guarantee every aspect of this has been discussed at Rare, but the Kraken as it exists right now is - somehow - pretty lame.
