10 Ways Rare Can Save Sea Of Thieves
5. Ship Customisation (And More Ships In General)
How do you make a game about the pirate life and all things booty-related... and not include in-depth ship customisation?! Even Assassin's Creed: Black Flag had a ton of things you could chop and change, from sails to ramming add-ons, wheels to harpoon holders and everything in between.
Sea of Thieves has... paint jobs and a few figureheads for the front of the ship. Expensive ones at that.
It does have the knock-on effect of really marvelling at someone who can afford to paint their hull a different colour, but we should all be customising and personalising our vehicles every step of the way. Harder quests should give out specific ornaments; colourisation should be free from the get-go, with faction-specific sails also being unlockable depending on who you want to affiliate with.
If a recent story on how the devs apparently took two years to settle on ONE ship design is true, it illuminates precisely why there's no structural customisation: Even they couldn't decide what to change.
All this said, we need more ship parts, and more ships in general. If this is going to be a multiplayer paradise, no two ships should ever be the same.
