10 Ways Sony Could Ruin The PS5
5. Lagging Behind On Cross-Play And Partnerships
For a while, it looked as though Sony was going to be left in the dust by Microsoft and Nintendo. Where those companies were engaging in an unprecedented partnership, with the former bringing subscription services and games to the latter's platform, Sony continued to close their console off to everyone.
For a good few years, cross-play seemed to be out the question, as did mods for games such as Fallout 4. Thankfully the company has started to slowly adopt these cross-console initiatives, and has just recently announced that cross-play is out of beta testing.
Those are solid steps in the right direction, but the company needs to continue making these strides going into the next generation. Releasing its exclusives on other consoles might not be the right idea, but the 'console war' is counter-productive at this point, and healthy cooperation is just as necessary as healthy competition.
Oh, also, no more one-year exclusivity rights for third-party games, Sony. It's not a good look.
