10 Ways Sony Could Ruin The PS5
4. Making It A VR Machine
Now, let me preface this entry by saying that I bloody love PSVR. I was one of those early adopters who paid through the nose for Move controllers after the price hiked from $8 up to $80, and didn't regret it. That said, while Sony needs to support their VR system going forward, it shouldn't take precedent over regular games.
Currently, it's the one successful accessory the company has over Microsoft and Nintendo. PSVR has sold well, and unlike the Vita, Sony has actually supported it with high-quality games that are only getting better.
However, there is the chance that this machine could take too much of the company's focus going forward, and that too many features of the PS5 will be designed with VR in mind - similar to how the Xbox One was built partly around the Kinect peripheral (and we all know how that turned out).
There's already been a patent filed for a next-gen VR headset, and PSVR has came up in both Wired interviews, showing that Mark Cerny and co. clearly have it in mind while designing the next console.
