10 Ways Spyro: Reignited Is Better (And Worse) Than Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy
2. Worse: Less Level Variation
The creativity of the levels on offer is a huge draw in both games, though neither of them can claim that every level is completely unique. In Spyro The Dragon, each realm has its own theme that the levels spin off from. While in Crash, you have Arabian themed levels, Egyptian themed levels, jungled themed levels, the list goes on and on and on.
But where Crash stands out is the diversity of playstyles. While Spyro might have a bit more to do in each level, they all boil down to simply running around and exploring. The only variation really are the speedway levels and the skateboarding. Speedways are a nice break but very much feel like add ons, while skateboarding is the closest Spyro gets to dodgy mechanics.
Crash, however, does more with an arguably limited concept. There’s underwater levels, aeroplane levels, jet ski levels, jet pack levels, and many more. Not to mention that the fairly simple idea of Crash riding something is used in three distinct ways: Racing (Orange Asphalt), dodging (Hog Wild) and side scrolling (Eggipus Rex). They wrung every drop of creativity out of Crash superbly.
