10 Ways Spyro: Reignited Is Better (And Worse) Than Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy
1. Better: Hubworlds
While Spyro’s levels play the same way, the realms and hubworlds more than make up for it.
Crash 1 is a straight linear game; beat one, get the next one. It can make those hard to beat levels extra frustrating when you have no alternative. Crash 2 & 3 at least opened it up, but all that did was offer you five levels. Pick one.
Again, simplicity works for Crash, but Spyro offers something better. The realms were huge extensions of the levels themselves, containing their own enemies, secrets and collectibles. As the games moves to hubworlds, it only got better.
The hubworlds of Ripto’s Rage and Year Of The Dragon were much bigger than the first game, and brought new activities with them. Although Moneybags was a pain in the tail, he did at least allow Spyro new ways to access the map. Some of the most creative orb and egg hiding places came in the hubworlds too. Not to mention conversations with Elora, Hunter and Bianca added to the narrative.
All in all, both games present their levels in ways that are perfect for their styles. Spyro just does that bit more with it.
