10 Ways The Xbox One Is Secretly Beating PS4 & Nintendo Switch
5. HoloLens
Let's call this a future victory, shall we?
As much fun as virtual reality is, it was never really going to be the big hit that the big companies wanted it to be. The lack of any meaningful experiences means that, as it is, virtual reality really doesn't have much of a future in the industry.
On the other hand, augmented reality feels like the next big technological step in really connecting us with our games. There's no indication on when HoloLens will become a mainstream public product, but the technology behind it is leaps and bounds ahead of anything that the competitors are doing at the moment.
From the few gameplay demos that we've been shown by Microsoft, HoloLens looks like it could truly revolutionize some aspects of gaming. Besides just being a great piece of tech, it looks like it actually has some genuine gaming potential, which can't yet be said of virtual reality.
No one out there is doing anything like HoloLens, let alone Sony or Nintendo, so Microsoft are pretty much owning this one.
