2: Dunk Head In Wax - Dark Souls 3

I apologise for the whiplash of following up what happened in that last entry with one that’s just ‘Dunk head in wax’. But it’s pretty weird in the context of a FromSoftware game.

These are games where we’re taught to be afraid of everything. Everything is trying to kill us, we’re super vulnerable, and the consequences associated with dying are high so you’re almost always on edge and suspicious. Imagine our suspicion then when we sauntered by a pool in the Grand Archives only to be met with the unusual prompt to dunk our character’s head in wax. There’s no obvious reason why we would want to do this or if we’re going to be punished or rewarded for doing so but being that this is a video most people went ahead and did just that.

After some investigation it became apparent that the wax is really helpful for an enemy down the line as it negates damage from them, but in typical FromSoft fashion they’re not just going to come out and tell you that.

And so at the end of the day we just end up with this extremely weird ‘Press X To Pay Respects’-esque prompt that had plenty of players saying “Excuse me, what?” Not only that but you look super weird once you’ve done it which is only going to add to the enormous question mark in your head about what on earth you’ve just done and why.
