Personally I think there’s a strong argument to be made that Hatoful Boyfriend might be as weird as games get. It’s not the grossest, the goriest, or the most infamous. But it is flat out bizarre. And the fact that it’s achieved this while being a genuinely good game might be the weirdest part of all.

The fact that Hatoful Boyfriend is a dating sim where you date pigeons is really just the tip of the iceberg here. All the pigeons have different personalities, the setting is an alternate reality where birds are sapient, but neither of those things compare to my favourite fact of all. That is, you’re not a bird. You’re a human, attending St. PideoNation’s Institute, a school for birds. Who will flirt with you. A human teenage girl.

It’s pretty amazing.
