After completing Resident Evil 2's entire campaign, a survivor mode will be unlocked, centred around a Special Forces soldier called Hunk.

However, completing this mission will unlock an even greater Easter egg. After finishing The 4th Survivor mode, you'll get to replay it as a Japanese-speaking chunk of tofu.

Tofu is one of the most iconic hidden characters in gaming, purely because of how random it is. Though it sounds like this character was purely created for a laugh, the soy-based food initially had a significant purpose.

During Resident Evil 2's development, Capcom needed to test the collision detection and hit-boxes, especially in tight environments. However, creating detailed character models would be harder to see when debugging, so the developers decided having a human-sized block as the protagonist made more sense. The developers found the model so amusing, they put him in the final game.

The parody character is only armed with a combat knife, making his level unrealistically difficult. Interestingly, this decision made Tofu more popular with veterans, since only the most skilled players can complete this mission.

Despite being created as a joke, Tofu has become such a hit, he was brought back for 2019's Resident Evil 2 Remake.
