10 Worst Boss Battles In Final Fantasy History - Ranked

3. Lamia Queen – Final Fantasy II

Although not particularly powerful, and far from the strongest boss in the game physically, her constant inflicting of status effects of the party can make this a battle more of luck than of skill – something that marks a boss battle as terrible.

Not only just she cast blink on herself, making it virtually impossible to hit her with physical attacks, but her own attack regularly casts sleep on the party. She also casts confuse, turning your allies against you.

Considering FFII required you to pick a route when levelling your party (you might focus on physical attacks, magical, or somewhere in the middle), if you chose a physical setup, you're pretty much screwed in this fight – and unlike later series entries, you can't just reallocate skills and abilities.

For many boss battles in FFII that got too difficult, unlocking the over-powerful Blood Sword is enough to help you through the gruelling tests – alas, Lamia Queen is too early in the game to access the sword, so you have to hope you've prepared for her before you actually encounter her, else getting through this frustrating encounter will induce a stroke.
