6. The Search For General White - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Super Mario Games
Nintendo

While in Fahr Outpost, you are told to locate General White, since he is the only one who can activate the cannon that you need to reach Princess Peach. For this mission, you need to travel around the world and speak to several key figures to find him.

If you don't know who to talk to, this quest can take hours. If you know exactly what to do, it will still take over twenty minutes. And where was the elusive bob-omb hiding the entire time? In Fahr Outpost... where you started your quest. However, he can't be found there unless you search in every nook and cranny in the game beforehand.

When you find White sleeping in his house, you'll try and find a way to wake him up. Do you blow him up? Hit him with a hammer? Smack him with a Koopa shell?

Nope. To awaken White, you need to jump on him... twenty times. This is so frustrating, because no rational player would think this method would work. When he doesn't wake up the first ten times you jump on him, why would anyone think another ten jumps would work? This is, hands-down, the most frustrating quest in an otherwise amazing game.
