10 Worst Power-Ups In Gaming History
5. Turbo - Fallout: New Vegas
If Mario picking up a mushroom and gaining a health state is a power-up, then one modernised version is meds and chems.
A power-up doesn’t
always have to be something you pick up off the ground, and even then, roaming
the wastelands you find all kinds of needles and edibles along the way.
Each Fallout game has a host of chems for the wanderer, courier or sole survivor to dabble in. Some give you damage resistance, some make you more charming, others make you smarter. However, New Vegas in particular brought Turbo to the medicine cabinet.
It's one of the worst power-ups you could use, be it in a fight or navigating a tricky part of the wastes. Turbo slows down time for a few minutes... and that’s it. Projectiles, enemies, the environment are all slowed down for you to manipulate however you may please.
Why is it so bad? Because in the Fallout universe, as with real life, addiction is an issue. Each chem has a certain chance to get you addicted and if that happens, your stats drop.
So, the question is, is slowing down time worth the risk of addiction? I say, no.
