2. Cancelling Monolith's Wonder Woman Game
You’ve seen her in Injustice, LEGO, Fortnite and MultiVersus, but you may never see her in her own title...
In terms of cancelled, killed or uncompleted games from Warner Bros. Games, few have left a sour taste in our mouths as, you guessed it: Wonder Woman. The hotly anticipated game, which was pitched and planned by Monolith, and announced back in 2021, was officially canned in February of this year.
The game promised to put the iconic superhero front and centre in a single-player, open-world epic that used the full talents of the character’s comic book writers and the people that developed the Middle Earth games (using the Nemesis system, no less). But, after three years (!) of development, Warner scrapped it along with Monolith itself.
Warner Bros. cited the difficult decision to close the studios and axe their games as a measure to boost profitability (reported by The Guardian). So, hey, gaming fans, at least you’ve got Warner’s profitability to keep you company when you’re looking for a fun evening in.
And this leads us into what is surely their worst decision of all...
