10 Worst Unskippable Gaming Cutscenes You’ll See Hundreds Of Times

1. Okami

Clover/Capcom

The 2006 title Okami was lauded on release for its beautiful art style and totally diverse visuals combined with a story that took inspiration from Japanese mythology to create a totally unique experience. Though it would not prove to be a massive commercial success, Okami attracted a devoted fan base and received critical plaudits for its distinctive style and gameplay.

To introduce the player to the lore surrounding the game, Okami begins with an extended cutscene that aims to familiarise the player with what is going on in the world around them. Unfortunately, despite being visually appealing this proves to be an absolute slog to work through, clocking in at a frankly unreasonable nearly 20 minutes before the player has the option of actually do anything. What makes things worse is the dialogue forces the player to read along at a snail's pace, and fails to offer an option for returning players to skip through entirely which, unfortunately, likely turned many players off what is an otherwise excellent game.
