10 Worst Video Game Tutorials Everyone Hated
2. Final Fantasy VIII
By far the most divisive aspect of Final Fantasy VIII is its esoteric magic junctioning system, in large part due to the fact that it's hurriedly explained at the start of the game with a barrage of tutorials that aren't exactly the most user-friendly to get to grips with.
Millions of young kids playing FFVIII were left struggling to figure out the junction mechanic, which massively over-estimates the player's ability to soak in information from a series of overwhelmingly dense and dry tutorials.
Given that junctioning is a vital facet of gameplay, failing to understand it will make things majorly difficult, and it's absolutely the game's failing that so many took so long to get to grips with it.
Final Fantasy XIII may have funnelled you through a 25-hour corridor, but at least you knew what the hell you were doing.
And no matter FFVIII's divisive plot, there's nothing more irritating than its unacceptably scant tutorial for such a complex focal gameplay system.
