100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil
50. Chris' New Face
RE7's direction into photogrammetry pushed Capcom in unique ways and one of the most surprising was a total redesign for Chris Redfield, who makes a cameo at the end of the game. He was so vastly different - in an effort to pursue realism - that fans speculated that it was all a ploy. But by the time the DLC chapter Not A Hero concluded, it was clear that this indeed was supposed to be Chris.
However, the fan outcry was loud enough that Capcom changed Chris yet again for the next game, trying to find a happy medium between his classic RE6 look and something more realistic.
That said, Village also came with RE:Verse; an absolutely terrible, shallow multiplayer shooter that was supposed to celebrate 25 years of the series and largely did so poorly. Hilariously, because it was developed concurrently with Village by a different team, it featured RE7's Chris' face in the beta.
By the time of the game's launch, Capcom had swapped the imposter with Redfield's Village look. However, in quite a clever twist, the strange, one-off face was an optional cosmetic.
To be fair, the very limited cosmetics were the best thing about the game as they celebrated all different eras of the series, including the maligned RE7 Redfield.
