100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

30. Who is Alice?

"Alice? Alice? Who the f..."

Okay, never mind.

But no, really. Aside from director Paul Anderson's hot wife doing backflips and roundhouse kicks, who is Milla Jovovich's Alice? The RE movie franchise is so painfully obviously put together on the fly that it often contradicts itself and makes random changes all the way through. Alice starts the franchise as an amnesiac Umbrella employee, turns on the company, gains super-powers, loses super-powers, regains super-powers and the grand reveal at the end is that she's a clone of Umbrella owner Alicia Marcus.

Though never said explicitly in the films, Alice's surname is given in the novelisation of the film entry as Abernathy... except it's also apparently not that either.

Early drafts in the third outing, Resident Evil Extinction, saw Alice hack an Umbrella server and discover files that refer to her by the name "Janus Prospero". This name is also seen very briefly at the end of the second movie, Resident Evil Apocalypse, but it's never referenced back to again.

Then again, trying to make sense of these movies is the real Resident Evil.
