5. Star Wars Episode 1: Racer

Few films receive such a critical drubbing as the newer Star Wars movies, although amongst the writhing sea of hatred surrounding Episode I all the way back in 1999, there was always that afterthought of "...but that podrace was awesome!"
LucasArts cottoned onto this idea too, replicating the slick, Wipeout-style idea of races between hovering jet-engines that could thwack each other off increasingly-hazardous tracks perfectly. The key element to nailing the feel was in the speed, and luckily Racer totally nailed the core feel of hurtling across the desert barely being in control of these gigantic turbines that were pulling you along regardless.
It's a real shame it never saw other console releases outside a slightly smoothed-over port to the Dreamcast a year later, and we're left wondering why on earth there haven't been more podracing titles in the last decade - as this was spot on.
