11 Influential Video Games That Have Aged Horribly
6. GoldenEye 007
Ask anyone who was alive in the '90s what the best shooter of the decade was and odds are you'll soon find yourself listening to them rant about their friend who always insisted on playing Oddjob.
There's simply no question that Goldeneye was instrumental in building the popularity of the FPS genre, and it's remembered fondly by all those who played it growing up.
Not only did Goldeneye offer a great FPS story based on the movie of the same name, but it gave us endless hours of fun playing split-screen multiplayer engaged in bloody deathmatches with our friends and loved ones, and cultivated a love of multiplayer gaming in a generation of impressionable youths.
That said, attempting to play it again now will leave you feeling more dissatisfied than you'd expect.
After spending years playing well-polished shooters like COD and Battlefield, Goldeneye controls like a rusted tank recently discovered at the bottom of the ocean. Add to this the fact that online multiplayer has rendered split-screen entirely obsolete, and screen-watching will no longer be a mere annoyance but an infuriating throwback to the days of not being able to trust anyone.
As sad as it may seem, it's probably best to leave Goldeneye in the past, if only to preserve your treasured memories of this groundbreaking title.
