11 Influential Video Games That Have Aged Horribly
5. Resident Evil
Resident Evil is one of the most well known franchises in all of gaming.
While its reputation has taken several blows over the years, it always seems to bounce back, and the franchise remains to be one of Capcom's biggest earners.
The game that started it all, Resident Evil, began a behemoth multimedia franchise that was able to capitalise on our collective obsession with a zombie apocalypse, and it did it with a game so infamously wonky that it's been the butt of countless jokes since its 1996 release.
Following a small group of the Raccoon City Police Department known as S.T.A.R.S., the game takes place in the Spencer Mansion as they investigate a number of bizarre cannibalistic murders.
What seemed a little odd in the mid-'90s has become laughable today, and playing through a game filled with a ridiculous amount of strange voice acting is certainly good for a few chuckles. Or, it would be, if Resident Evil wasn't so frustrating.
The game's camera is notoriously uncooperative with players, and seeing what you're actually doing while navigating the rooms and hallways of the mansion is an entirely thankless task.
Still, playing through the game just to hear yourself referred to as "the master of unlocking" is more than worth it. Thanks, Barry.
