11 Influential Video Games That Have Aged Horribly
7. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Influential: Brought open-world fantasy into mainstream gaming in a less child-like setting.
Horrible: visually unimpressive, with a less intuitive control scheme and inventory/journal system than more recent titles in the franchise that makes playing it incredibly frustrating.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind brought the series into the modern era of gaming, and showed us exactly what a fantasy RPG could look like: open, filled with quests and NPCs and lore that could easily consume your every waking thought if you were to allow yourself to fall into it.
Morrowind is still quoted as an inspiration for many modern fantasy titles, and the formula that Bethesda struck back in 2002 is still serving them well today.
The problem is, when you pick it up today, Morrowind isn't an easy experience. It feels less smooth that it once did, and its visuals have since become incredibly dated and unimpressive.
Maybe we've just been spoiled by the added levels of freedom and tweaks to basic gameplay offered by later titles, but Morrowind just doesn't feel as user-friendly as it once did, which is incredibly frustrating for fans of Oblivion and Skyrim going back for a look at where the franchise really took off.
