11 Most Notorious Gaming Sequel Set-Ups That Never Followed Through
3. Advent Rising - "There Is Much To Be Done"
A sci-fi game from the mind of Orson Scott Card: what could go wrong? Advent Rising may not have been a huge success, but it was a fascinating cult classic, revolving around protagonist Gideon Wyeth, a man who must attempt to stop an alien race called the Seekers from destroying humanity who, it is revealed, actually have secret powers that can be unlocked through intense training. At the end of the game, Gideon faces off against a God-like entity called the Koroem, and Gideon's powers end up opening a portal which sends him to an ice planet of some kind. A strange, presumably indigenous creature appears before Gideon and says "Come with me, human. There is much to be done", as the game ends on a massive "To be continued." Advent Rising was supposed to be the first part of a trilogy, but due to horrible sales, they never materialised. Video game developers need to learn not to be so arrogant and actually plan for the eventuality that other people might not dig their game as much as they do (great though the game actually was).
