11 Video Games That Are Better If You Suck

9. Super Metroid

Death Stranding
Nintendo

Even though navigating through a labyrinth-like world played a big part in earlier games like The Legend of Zelda and the original Metroid, Super Metroid pushed exploring your environment to a whole new level. Throughout this side-scrolling platformer, the bounty hunter, Samus, must locate enhancements to open areas that were previously inaccessible. Because the map is gigantic, you will need to backtrack a lot to find every little secret.

Even though it's cool to swing on a grappling hook or blast a boss into oblivion, there's nothing more satisfying in Super Metroid than discovering a whole new area to explore.

But because seeking out new regions, weapons, and armor is the game's defining attribute, it loses its mystique upon repeated playthroughs since you know where everything is! If you know how to find a specific weapon or enter a hidden area, you don't need to explore, robbing the player of the experience the game was designed for.

Don't get me wrong. Super Metroid is still a masterpiece, even after you've memorised the location of every E-Tank and Super Missile. However, it's one game where you don't mind not knowing what to do since it allows you to explore the world to your heart's content.
