11 Video Games That Will Define The Current Generation
10. DOOM
When Bethesda revealed it would be reviving the DOOM franchise, no one was quite sure what to think. The company had seen success by resurrecting Wolfenstein, so it was at least promising. It turned out however that DOOM would become one of the best games of 2016 and one of the best first person shooters of the generation.
Credited with having one of the greatest single-player campaigns in first person shooter history, DOOM is fast-paced, brutal and immensely fun. The way the game does away with the pretentious fluff often found in the genre to get right into the meat of the gameplay is a novelty that permeates the entire experience.
From the viscerally satisfying glory kills that see Doomguy batter the demons of Hell in the face, to the incredibly quick movement system all running at a silky smooth 60 frames per second, DOOM is remarkably compelling.
DOOM harkens back to the days of pure gameplay. The multiplayer might be lacking a bit, but the game helped to prove that gamers do in fact care about the single-player aspect of a first person shooter. Especially when it comes with a pulse-pounding metal soundtrack.
