12 Best Western-Themed Video Games Ever
7. Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Western-inspired games don’t get more bonkers (or brilliant, for that matter) than Stranger’s Wrath. Set in a frontier land that could only ever appear in an Oddworld game, the aim is to take a man only known as the Stranger through lawless, amazingly named towns such as Gizzard Gulch and Buzzarton on some bloody bounty hunts.
The game’s weapon design and engaging gameplay is what got critics kicking up dust, with (a)live ammunition being used to either cripple or kill your foes. Developers, Oddworld Inhabitants, also mixed things up a tad giving players the ability to switch from third to first person, to suit instances where shrewd platforming skills are required, or a situation where you need to blast your way out of trouble.
Throw in some really finite RPG elements – the bounty store is your one stop shop for character progressing bulk buying - to this blisteringly-brilliant powder keg of weird and it’s no wonder it was topping many game of the year polls come the end of 2005.
