What's the biggest issue when trying to convey real, human emotion in video games? Easy, the animation. Well, developers Fullbright Company simply said "Let's not" and built an entire game around uncovering a series of letters that double as audio diaries, telling the tale of teenage Sam and her flirtatious relationship with the rebellious Lonnie, another girl in her class. The thing that makes you really root for the relationship to blossom is we've all been there - especially during high school and all the tumultuous decisions that come with trying to fit in and make new friends. Sam's realisation that she wants to be with Lonnie as more than just friends is extremely well done, and when those feelings are reciprocated and everything starts to take off it's both exciting and terrifying - especially as the crux of the game has you trying to track her down in the first place. Luckily it all comes full circle and by the time the credits roll you'll have partaken in one of the most unique and narratively rewarding experiences out there.
