12 Hugely Delayed Video Games (That Ended Up Sucking)

4. Aliens: Colonial Marines

The Delay: If you want to be picky about it, Aliens: Colonial Marines has actually existed as an idea since the early 2000s as a PS2 game, though Gearbox Software's version didn't begin development until late 2006. In 2008, the first delay was announced due to redundancies at Gearbox, with Sega later implying that we wouldn't see the game until at least 2010, after the release of the game Aliens vs. Predator. In 2011, with a teaser trailer revealed, it was dated for spring 2012, before being pushed to the end of that year, and then finally, getting its eventual release date of February 2013. The Result: Despite promising trailers and gameplay footage, Colonial Marines was yet another terrible adaptation of a movie license. The atmospheric elements are there, but the xenomorph AI is horrendous, and it doesn't help that they're so easy to kill, turning what should be an extremely difficult task into a simple shooting gallery. Though the game is based on the most action-orientated of the movies, that shouldn't have stopped it from being both tense and intense. In addition, the various cut-scenes are horribly animated and resemble something that would've been laughed at a decade ago. It was later revealed that Gearbox outsourced the development to other companies when deadlines ran tight, which in part explains the shoddy final product. What a waste.
