12 Hugely Delayed Video Games (That Ended Up Sucking)

10. Driv3r

The Delay: After the success of the original Driver, a sequel was quickly rushed out less than 18 months later to a relatively muted response, but expectations were still high for Driv3r, the first game in the series to be released on PS2 and Xbox. Driv3r was originally touted for a late 2003 release date, but in mid-2003 this was moved to spring 2004. However, in January 2004, the game was again delayed until June of that year, by which point gamers were truly fed up waiting so long for another Driver game (almost 4 years since the last). The Result: A pile of hot garbage, and one of the worst video game sequels ever. Trying to capitalise on the success of the 3D Grand Theft Auto series, Driv3r follows a similar vein, throwing in even more on-foot gameplay than before, but also adding in weapons for good measure. While no doubt good ideas to diversify the franchise, they succumb to woefully clunky controls: whether you're shooting, running or driving a car, handling anything is an absolute pain, and having to contend with bone-headed AI doesn't help matters at all. Thankfully, the series rebounded considerably after this monumental failure with a couple of good-to-great games.
