12 More Enjoyably Dumb Things Gamers Do We Can't Explain
1. Climbing A Mountain As A "Shortcut"
In the same way players never go where they're told, they'll similarly do anything to find a quicker route to their destination than the one set out by their GPS. Especially in open world games, journeying to your next objective isn't a simple case of walking in a straight line, as there could be buildings, swamps or mountains in your way.
Of course, we'd all rather go through rather than around - even if you're not technically supposed to. As a result, we'll throw ourselves at a mountain, trying to exploit every nook and cranny to climb up what's essentially a vertical line. Sometimes it works, and it feels as though you've cheated the game in a way and created a little shortcut, but more often than not you'll end up hurtling back down to the ground as your character ragdolls to death.
Even when it's far beyond the realm of being a "shortcut" any longer, you'll still not give up, stubbornly trying to climb over rocks even though you could have arrived where you needed to be 10 minutes prior.
