12 Ridiculous Video Game Movies You Didn't Know Were Happening
5. Spy Hunter
The Game: A classic vertical-scrolling arcade shooter, in which the player has to traverse various dangerous locales in their armoured car, destroying enemies with your vast array of weaponry while protecting innocents. The game has had several contemporary updates, including 2006's Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, which starred Dwayne Johnson and was originally intended to tie into a movie starring the actor. The Movie: A Spy Hunter movie has been in the works in various forms for more than a decade, with the likes of John Woo and Paul W.S. Anderson being attached to direct at various stages. It's been a few years since the last update emerged, at which point Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) was pipped to direct, so it's possible that the project has once again stalled, with another director being sought. Why It's Ridiculous: Though it's a slightly more plausible idea than some of the items on this list, the original game is so minimal that much of the movie would have to be cobbled out of thin air. Granted, there could be a certain amount of fun in a Fast and Furious-style, dumb action film with plenty of explosions and insane stunts, but it would need to introduce some narrative diversity, because it would be tough and expensive to pull off a 2-hour movie set entirely on the road (though Mad Max: Fury Road is going to make a damn good effort this summer).
