10. Solidus Snake (Metal Gear Solid 2)

Solidus Snake may be the biological brother of Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake but something clearly went wrong in Solidus' test tube to cause "the perfect clone" to go so power hungry. A former President of the United States (insert joke about how they're all evil here) who is placed in power by the mysterious Patriots (a group that controls the world in secret), he also created child soldiers in Liberia and tried to create cyborgs from the brains of trafficked children. Solidus had a pretty expansive evil empire then but it would all come crashing down with the Big Shell Incident. Of course, Metal Gear Solid 2 needs a hero too. Enter Raiden, one of the most unpopular protagonists in history. Operating under the codename of 'Snake' at first (perhaps Konami just wanted to wind fans up even more?) and bragging about his success in VR missions (despite the Big Shell Incident being his first time in the field) Raiden's arrogance won him few friends. The fact that this naïve rookie manages to bluff his way through the entire operation and ultimately kill Solidus (well, he is helped by the fact that the operation has been scripted and planned by the Patriots...but that's a whole other story) is incredible really.
