6. Star Wars: Republic Commando

Somehow managing to make the Clones from the prequel trilogy interesting, Star Wars: Republic Commando was a surpassingly solid first-person shooter that never received the attention it deserved.

Because despite using the prequels as a visual baseline, the game actually had more in common with the original trilogy when it came to tone and presentation. Capturing a grimier and more grounded side of the world, Republic Commando treated its subject matter with care and attention, attempting to present this often criticised part of the franchise from an entirely new perspective.

While the plot itself was much better than anyone was expecting though, it was the combat that was the biggest standout success.

Taking control over three NPCs each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, you couldn't just brute strength your way through the levels in Republic Commando, but actually had to plan your routes and coordinate your team during each combat encounter.

Unfortunately the game released around the same time that Star Wars Battlefront 2 was taking off, and a lot of players weren't willing to take a chance on another unproven SW property.
