13 More Horror Themed Video Games To Play On Halloween
7. Silent Hill

When it comes to pure horror no video game has done it better than Silent Hill. Grotesque, disturbing and yet strangely beautiful, the world of Silent Hill goes down in gaming history having been featured on many lists of the greatest horror games of all time. Some games and movies rely on physical horror to freak out their audience - blood, mutilation, the whole nine yards. Others find that psychological thrills are more effective - and often more worthy - in delivering the scares. Silent Hill manages to take both of these concepts and expand them to deliver some of the freakiest scenes of all time.
The entire premise of the series is that a town called Silent Hill holds a vast amount of dark power. Many argue that the rituals of the occult that took place there years before have made Silent Hill the way it is while others argue that the events of the first game were what started it all. Either way, the town is f*cked up. People with deep psychological and emotional issues are drawn into the town where their fears are manifested by its otherworldly power. Each story is woven with the utmost care and you become completely invested in your characters as you experience their terror. Silent Hill has given us some of the scariest monsters in all of gaming. You won't find your traditional Halloween ghouls here, but what you will come across is much more terrifying.
You must begin with the first game in the series which set the tone for the rest of the franchise - an involved story, hysterically frightening environments, and the creepiest sounds you'll ever hear in a video game. If you're looking to connect with your character on a more emotional level you'll do well with Silent Hill 2 which also introduced the manliest of all monsters - Pyramid Head. The games do begin to take a different turn beginning with Silent Hill 4: The Room, but they are still plenty fun and plenty perfect to enjoy in this time of Halloween.
