13 Most Anticipated 2021 Video Games Ranked - Did They Live Up To The Hype?
12. Far Cry 6
“The Far Cry series, like most of Ubisoft's output, is the video-game equivalent of comfort food - the trimmings may change, but the overall flavour remains the same and is no less enjoyable for it.”
We wrote those words back in January, and Far Cry 6 did nothing to change our minds.
Far Cry 6 followed the series' formula to a tee, pitting players against a charismatic madman whose grip on the region is loosened via FPS open-world shenanigans. Outposts are liberated, allies are gathered, animals are hunted/befriended, and a good time is had by all.
A good time, but a very familiar one. Despite some new additions to the franchise, such as rideable horses and gaming's most overpowered backpack, FC 6 very much adhered to the formula Ubisoft have been sticking to since 2012's Far Cry 3.
The Far Cry games used to be wildly experimental - Far Cries 1, 2 and 3 are all very different from each other - and despite Far Cry 6 being a fun time while you're playing, its lack of innovation means it likely won't stick with you long after you finish it.
