One of the weirdest yet not exactly unexpected additions to AW's launch was the release of a "Day Zero" edition, allowing players who pre-ordered the game to receive the latest CoD a day before the actual release date, complete with double XP for the entire day. To be fair to Activision, at least they didn't charge extra for the Day Zero edition like many publishers would have, and it was easy enough to pre-order this version even mere days ahead of release. Still, it's a tacky way of trying to incentivise pre-orders, by telling players, "Pre-order and you'll Prestige before your friends!" Speaking of Prestige, was the double XP incentive really necessary? People already want to play the game a day early, and that likely would have been enough. Instead, the double XP launch allowed players to reach Prestige before the game was even officially released, and considering the launch weekend was also a double XP weekend, it does somewhat feel like overkill on Activision's part.
