14 Awesome Summer 2017 Video Games You Probably Missed
10. What Remains Of Edith Finch
The second game from The Unfinished Swan developer Giant Sparrow is a short but incredibly compelling "walking simulator" (and we mean it in the good way) which sees the titular character exploring her family's lavish estate and learning of the unfortunate fates which have befallen just about everyone related to her, apparently due to a family curse.
These segments in which Edith and the player discover the grisly, often darkly funny means through which the Finches died are diverse, clever and even emotionally resonant, particularly in the game's poignant final stretch.
Giant Sparrow has been working on the game for many, many years, and while players may have been expecting something a little more content-rich as a result, the two-hour adventure perfectly subscribes to the "quality, not quantity" maxim.
Possibly the most affecting, thoughtful and provocative game of the summer, What Remains of Edith Finch is an unforgettable testament to the moving potential of video game as a medium.
