Let's put aside the weirdness that comes with glorifying one of the most brutal and bloody battles in human history, and focus on the positives.

Because honestly, you can tell during development that after DICE decided they were going to make World War I an entertainment product, they were either going to have to skirt around certain representations of combat... or dive in head-first.

They promptly chose the latter.

That's resulted in the studio's signature graphical polish being applied to everything from truncheons to sky-filling blimps, the latter of which you can bring down and watch as their fiery skeletal wreckage terraforms the landscape in real time.

At this stage, you know how Battlefield looks, feels and plays - the real hook is the industry's return to an old school setting for combat.

With this latest instalment and COD: Infinite Warfare literally being worlds apart, it's going to be very interesting to see what other trends and titles the two inspire, depending on what sells best.
