8. Verdugo
The Verdugo are the pair of robed bodyguards that appear alongside Ramon Salazar in Resident Evil 4.
Even when dressed in their finery they’re very clearly not human; they tower over the diminutive Salazar in cut scenes and we get glimpses of something nasty beneath the hood.
When we finally face off against one in a boss fight, the Verdugo is revealed to be Resi’s version of the Xenomorph; the two monsters are almost identical except the Verdugo’s head resembles a human skull with insect mandibles.
The monster is one of RE4’s toughest fights, although in time-honoured Resident Evil fashion this boss can simply be avoided until the elevator arrives and Leon can make his escape. The Verdugo is never encountered again and presumably makes itself at home in the sewer for the remainder of the game.
The other Verdugo has the unfortunate fate of being absorbed by Ramon Salazar when he transforms into a giant-meat-flower during a later boss fight (RE4 is weird).
