7. Crimson Head

It’s clear to see the evolution of the zombie throughout Resident Evil, as the developers think up fresh ways to keep this most common enemy frightening. In the recent remakes the zombies got an upgrade, feeling both hardier and more deadly, but the Resident Evil remake’s Crimson Heads still top the pile for scariest zombie.

It really was a genius innovation and set the standard for the remakes that were to follow; each game felt familiar but with just enough changes so that returning players would still have some shocks in store for them.

And so, the Crimson Heads were introduced.

In the REmake, whenever you kill a zombie and don’t decapitate or burn the corpse - the oil needed to burn the bodies is a precious and rare commodity - they will revive after a short time as a far more dangerous foe: the Crimson Head.

While Resident Evil loves its slow-moving zombies, the Crimson Head bucks that trend; they move quicker than the player and are one of the few enemies that are able to follow them if they flee into another room. They are also much tougher and aggressive, attacking the player with teeth and sharp claws.
