14 Video Game Franchises That Will Never Die
13. Sonic The Hedgehog
A series which has probably been re-imagined more times than should legally be allowed, Sonic the Hedgehog has proven that it's an incredibly adaptable franchise, at least in terms of core gameplay. In the last ten years alone, Sonic has gone from Sonic '06 to Sonic Boom, completely reinventing itself multiple times, staying relevant and ensuring continued survival.
The series has been reimagined and reworked so many times that it's now almost impossible to pin down what a Sonic game should actually look like. In 2010, Sonic Colours introduced power-ups and multiple perspectives, in 2012, Sonic Lost World innovated in terms of level design and character movement, and last year Sonic Boom took the series right back to basics, and screwed the pooch entirely.
Either way, Sonic the Hedgehog will be around forever. SEGA seem incapable of settling on a core concept, but the universal appeal of the series will most likely never run dry. It's just too recognisable a brand. Sonic is perhaps one of the most famous video games characters of all times, and that legacy will carry the franchise a very long way.
