15 Best Video Game Acting Performances Of The Decade
7. Ashly Burch - Chloe Price (Life Is Strange)
This Telltale-esque adventure from DontNod Entertainment walked the fine line of cosy-town-based drama and time-warping tragedy. In its central duo, the blue-haired Chloe Price is at the forefront, brought to life to a saddening effect by Ashly Burch.
While Chloe may not be our central protagonist (that is left to the equally brilliant Hannah Rebecca Telle as Maxine), she’s very much at the heart of Life is Strange. Chloe throws Max’s life into disarray as an old friend returning to their hometown of Arcadia Bay – but any that have played that game, know it’s not quite as simple as that.
Burch oozes confidence as a person that is who she wants to be, but on the flip of a switch reveals her assembly of insecurities. At the top of that list is the feeling that she has overstayed her welcome. The resulting mystery and drama that surrounds Arcadia Bay begins to chip away at Chloe, who can see that she is dragging everyone down, despite her best efforts.
It makes the eventual conclusion of this hardy and rebellious young adult all the more heartbreaking, and depending on your ending, the lamenting echoes of Spanish Sahara by Foals, or the enchanting guitar of Obstacles by Syd Matters give Burch’s finest performance the curtain call it deserve.
