5. Half-Life 3 Confirmed (For Real This Time) - Half-Life: Alyx

A watershed moment for Valve and Half-Life fans came with the team returning to arguably their most important IP.

Though I have to delve into spoilers for this ginormous reveal, at this stage if you're a Half-Life fan you already know, and you are reeling.

Come the close of this Half-Life 2 prequel, you're suddenly face to face with the ethereal G-Man. A character divorced from time and space who intervenes on whatever schedule he's trying to keep for his "employers", G-Man seems to have plans for everything and everyone in this universe.

Freeing him from a high-tech prison cell, G-Man thanks Alyx by giving her something she "doesn't know she wants" - reversing the death of her father, five years in the future.

This takes Alyx out of the Half-Life 2 timeline, and suddenly we (the player) are back to the close of that game, talking to a now-alive Eli. He promptly picks up a crowbar, hands it to you as Gordon freakin' Freeman, and proclaims, "We've got work to do."
